National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week Banner

This National Volunteer Week we are giving a heartfelt thank you to all UBC United Way Volunteers. The 2021 Campaign saw over 170 volunteers make a difference.

The theme for this year’s National Volunteer Week is “empathy in action,” a principle we have seen demonstrated at UBC. Seeing volunteers from across different units, departments and faculties come together shows that empathy helps create bonds forged in common goals and aspirations.

Cicy Guimond (Associate Director, Student Financial Management, Enrolment Services) who volunteers for the Brock Hall Campaign “volunteering for United Way is a great way to give back to the community while connecting with colleagues from other departments.”

Our incoming chair Francis Lepage (Director, Custodial Services, Facilities) started his volunteer commitment with the UBC United Way Campaign as a Campaign Champion before joining the Executive Committee finds the volunteer experience to be rewarding “I enjoy working with a diverse group from across campus who are united in making a difference for our communities.”

Since 2010, Fred Woo (Assistant Manager, Animal Care, Biosafety and Radiation Committees) has been volunteering. He is encouraged by the generosity of the UBC community – “I would like to see more people involved and embrace the United Way campaign, resulting in lots of money raised.” Learn more about volunteering for the UBC United Way Campaign.
